Local projects, local people

It is people who make the Churnet Valley what it is today. Happily, many local residents are keen to put time and energy into improving the area.

The Community Grant Scheme 2012 -16 supported communities in the Churnet Valley who wanted to improve their local environment. These small grants supported a wide range of initiatives from local festivals to repairing local heritage features.

Several of the projects have involved restoring buildings, including: making a chimney safe at Cheddleton flint mill, mending the clock at Ledridge Church and lots of dry stone walling.

Spinners at Oakamoor Festival

We’ve engaged with about 99 groups – and the variety of projects that have come forward has been absolutely brilliant.
